This year marked a powerful chapter for Midwest Urban Strategies, a network that continues to redefine what’s possible when cities and regions work together. What began as a small coalition of Department of Labor–funded urban workforce boards has evolved into a multi-state, cross-regional force shaping the future of workforce development. Today, MUS stands as a powerhouse connector bringing together leaders, practitioners, employers, and community partners to strengthen economic mobility and build a more inclusive workforce ecosystem.
At the core of our work is a shared commitment to the values that have guided us from the beginning. We believe deeply in job seeker equity and access, ensuring that every community has clear pathways to opportunity. We lead with innovation, bringing bold, data-driven solutions into the workforce system. We champion collaboration, proving time and again that when regions align, they unlock greater impact. And through a focus on mobility and resilience, we support programs and partnerships that help people thrive, not just navigate the challenges of today, but prepare for the possibilities of tomorrow.
This guiding vision has fueled extraordinary momentum. This year was MUS’s biggest yet. Our network now spans 20 cities, 10 states, and 22 counties, serving millions across both urban and regional communities. From Detroit to Minneapolis, Kansas City to Louisville, and Tallahassee to Milwaukee, our member boards are advancing innovative strategies that meet the moment and move communities forward.
And our reach doesn’t stop in the Midwest. Through expanding partnerships in North Florida, South Georgia, Southeast Alabama, and Kentucky, MUS is strengthening its influence and building bridges that extend far beyond traditional geographic boundaries. Each new connection brings fresh insights, stronger alignment, and greater capacity to scale what works. As our Affiliate Membership grows, we broaden our impact beyond workforce boards to include organizations across the workforce ecosystem, those naturally connected through strategic partnerships and complementary expertise who enrich the fabric of MUS. Together, our members are demonstrating a simple but powerful truth: regional collaboration drives national impact. By sharing solutions, breaking down silos, and leading with purpose, MUS is helping transform workforce systems, one community at a time.
